The Arab Open University is a non-profit educational project for sustainable development. It was set up by HRH Prince Talal Bin Abdul-Aziz, Chairman of the AOU Board of Trustees. In December 2000, the headquarters of the AOU was set up in Kuwait and the university was officially declared as a centre for higher education. At present, AOU has eight subdivisions in Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and Sudan.

Undergraduate
The university had two undergraduate faculties – Business studies and Computer studies. The various pathways offered under Business studies include– Accounting, Economics, Management, Marketing, Systems, and Diploma in Business Studies. The undergraduate programmes in Computer studies include Information Technology, Networking and Security, Computer Science, Web Development, Computing with Business and Diploma in ITC.

Postgraduate
The university has two Postgraduate faculties – Business Studies that offers Master of Business Administration and Education studies that award postgraduate Diploma and Bachelor’s degree in Education, Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Bachelor’s degree in Special Education. Master’s Programmes in Educational Technology and Master’s Programmes in Educational Leadership are also offered by the university. Masters programme in Instructional Technology was validated in 2014 by the Open University, UK. The students enrolled under this programme receive two degrees: one from the Open University, UK and the other from Arab Open University.
